    First impression: Very Favorable

Kubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) Daily Build
lucid-desktop-i386.iso 13-Mar-2010 11:07 663M Desktop CD for PC (Intel x86) computers (standard download)

Just finished burning this LiveCD. I'm in it as I type. Everything that I can test, and that is of crucial importance to me works 'out of the box':
    • Desktop came up (Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)).
    • Sound works (Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition
      Audio Controller (rev 02)).
    • Networking works (Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) - Intel Corporation PRO/100 VE Network Connection (rev 02)) with the default network-manager-kde.
    • Compositing works. Very cool.

As many others have stated: Very nice for an Alpha!

How's your video speed? I am using ubuntu for a media 'puter that is stuck with a 945gm intel.

I got it up to 2500fps in glxgears - so it's OK for most things. I don't run 3-d or compiz.

    Hulu is skipping though.

XBMC was unusable before latest update - but I haven't checked it lately

Video speed is never what others would say is great (or even good), but for me, it's sufficient to run compositing, any effects that come with that, and to play DVDs. I'm not a gamer (other than online crosswords), so super-fast 3-D acceleration isn't important to me.

I can't even run 3-D, as I have an Intel i865 chip. All I play is chess, and some board games. So I wouldn't know FPS from UPS

Are you saying UPS is faster than your video card? How about USPS

How about akonadi, I've been unable to get rid of the erractic error messages that keep popping up on 9.10 and 10.04. Plus contacts keep disappearing.

I can't speak to Akonadi myself, as I only tried the LiveCD.

Ah. Somehow I mis-read your first post. At the time I couldn't reply. I was under the impression that you only install after it has long been released. I remember reading your comment when you installed KK.

So I was amazed that you installed so early. Now I see you just used the daily-live.

Regarding Akonadi. For some reason I dislike that program. It always seems to get in my way. I turned it off at some level, because I don't use PIM's. I don't know what I would do if I ever needed to use one.

I run compiz with kubuntu and i have too much lag with the latest driver. Plus i have the akonadi errors in every startup, i lost my contacts and when the nepomuk do indexing the situation with performance is terrible.
I dont know but some times i see xorg have too much cpu usage.

I use thunderbird + the lightning extension so I don't use any of the KDE Pim applications and I probably never will as I'm happy with what I'm using.

In my system (9.10) Akonadi is disabled at startup as I don't perceive I need it.

Don't know whether this will work on Lucid though as it's a KDE application and I'm running 4.4.1 I don't see why it shouldn't.
