Kate and KWrite both fail to start on the plasma-desktop

I can't start them from their menu options but, IF I start either kate or kwrite in a Konsole they both run well, even though a "Can't start Konsole" message later pops up on the background and a message appears in the panel stating "Sorry, plasma desktop ...something..." . Even with those messages nothing appears to malfunction on the desktop itself.

To get them to run from the menu I need to add the "Run in Terminal" option to each.

I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't help. The problems were caused by today's updates because both loaded normally from the menu yesterday.

    Hi GG,
I am having a problem replying to your message directly (no reply button) so I'll write to you here.

I had the same problem with kate this morning after update,
But a reboot solved that as well as the kdesudo issues lucid was giving me.

So far all is well here.

Your inability to answer my topic was my fault. I posted the message under the main title, not the subtitle "General". I've moved the messages posted under the main title to "General", so you should be able to respond now.

A reboot solved my problem with kate and kwrite, too, although there was no indication after the upgrade that a reboot was necessary.
    I didn't get a reboot notice either.

    Maybe an oversight somewhere?

      Probably.

I suspect it was due to a config file change which isn't read by their daemons except at bootup.
