    [Solved] Lucid Kubuntu Netbook loading plasma desktop in the background

    I hope the title is clear enough as I couldn't think of any other way to describe what is happening.

    After yesterdays updates and after logging in I get The kdm background screen and can hear kde starting up.

    I can run alt+f2 and thus start apps but the desktop seems to behidden behind the background.

    Any one else getting this?

    Hm, the closest I've seen to your problem is this...

      Thank you toad.

      plasma-netbook works but

      @snowjob: See System Settings > Desktop > Workspace.
      gives me a faded interface.

      Any idea where the config files are hidden for editing?

        Hm, not really - the whole plasma thing is a still somewhat of a closed book to me, have to check it out soonish myself though 'cos of irregularities :P

        My problem file is ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc - yours _appears_ to be ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktoprc but don't quote me on it!!!

        Best of luck

          That was the first thing I tried. I removed all plasma files from /.kde/share/config.

          Nada.

            If I understand you correctly, the below post should (I hope) solve your problem:

            Post Edit: I've looked at the above mentioned post and It seems that you've already tried that, so I'm sorry If this won't work again

              Hm, sorry I couldn't help - but of course, you would have scrapped all plasma stuff from there...

              What exactly do you mean by a faded interface? Can you cook up a screenshot for us?

                No worries

                By that I mean all the options are faded out.

                @oblivion: thank you. I think I'll try putting the script in autostart for netbook as I did for karmic (with the same suggestion from you).

                Will keep you posted

                  Re: Lucid Kubuntu Netbook loading plasma desktop in the background

                  Okay the fix suggested by oblivion worked for me here as well.

                  Here is a recap:
                  You can create the autostart file manually: Open Dolphin and select "Show Hidden Files". Then Go to .config/autostart/ folder. Create a file named "plasma-desktop.desktop" there (use Kate). Then paste the below code into the file:
                  Code:

                  [Desktop Entry]
                  Exec=plasma-desktop
                  Hidden=true
                  Name[en]=Plasma Desktop Workspace
                  Name=Plasma Desktop Workspace
                  OnlyShowIn=KDE;
                  Type=Service
                  X-DBUS-StartupType=wait
                  X-KDE-StartupNotify=false
                  X-KDE-autostart-phase=BaseDesktop
                  X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=desktop_kdebase-workspace
                  Then go into System Settings/autostart and enable the autostart file.
                  I changed this line:
                  Exec=plasma-desktop
                  to

                  Exec=plasma-netbook
                  Hope this helps others
