Re: Todays upgrade breaking my system?

It seems to be a python mismatch (aptitude tells):

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    python-kde4: Depends: python-qt4 (< 4.7.0-0ubuntu1+~) but 4.7.0-2ubuntu1 is to be installed.
Depends: python-sip4 (< 4.10.0-0ubuntu1+~) but 4.10.0-2ubuntu1 is to be installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

Keep the following packages at their current version:
    python-qt4 [4.7.0-0ubuntu1 (now)]
    python-sip4 [4.10.0-0ubuntu1 (now)]

    Score is 190

Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

    Remove the following packages:
    apport-kde
    apturl-kde
    gdebi-kde
    install-package
    jockey-kde
    k3b
    kde-minimal
    kdebase

      Thank you rog.

So in Synaptic I block upgrades of:
      python-qt4 4.7.0-0ubuntu1
      python-sip4 4.10.0-0ubuntu1

      and then dist-upgrade as usual?

when should one unlock the above two?

Re: Todays upgrade breaking my system?

I think that we need to wait new kdebindings (python-kde4 etc.) that has correct dependency.

Probably soon (?) as the first version (> kdebindings 4:4.3.98-0ubuntu1) is only building with the i386.

The KDE packages in lucid repos haven't all been upgraded to RC3 yet. Better to wait until they are.

This explains why I got a call today from one of my dependents stating that his upgrade "hung" and now his system is borked.

I responded to the notifier and started the update, but after 19 min of wheel spinning on my 12 Mb/sec link I canceled it.

If I can get him to the point of displaying the desktop and starting Skype then I won't have to drive over there.

OMG GG! You have people actually running Lucid

I also noticed this. Fortunately I also have the lubuntu-desktop package so it gracefully landed here and I can still use Chrome and other graphical programs. In the end it's not a big deal, this is just a test partition.

              Cheers!

                Opps, my bad!

I didn't read the forum title and ASSUMED the upgrade was refering to Karmic.

I may be missing the point; if so forgive me for being so uneducated in all matters Linux.

All my upgrades are done with aptitude on a Konsole. Last night I had exactly the same warning.
Accepted the suggested solution, upgraded without any further problems.

Lucid is running just fine -

except I do not understand the situation with the main panel. I can splatter icons all over the desktop, but I cannot get them all into the main panel. Maybe it is by design?

And yes, I am a fool who runs Lucid quite often when I do non-essential tasks.
