    E: Couldn't configure pre-depend virtuoso-opensource-6.0-bin for virtuoso-opensource-6.0, probably a dependency cycle.

    I got this one to.

Not me, I upgraded just fine in Lucid (I did wait quite a bit until nothing new seemed to pop up, that's about two hours ago -- I only excluded the initramfs stuff out because it's broken)

            Code:
            sudo apt-get install virtuoso-opensource-6.0-bin
I had tried installing virtuoso-opensource-6.0-bin with synaptic and then upgrading with synaptic earlier
            Nada.

Doing it from the command line then:
            Code:
            sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
            worked

Edit: After todays Staerday) upgrade nepumuk/akonadi fails again.

                @starbetrayer:
Thank you for the link and it said that the issue should be solved but after todays upgrade I still have the same behavior.
                apt-get purge virtuoso-server

did not help either. It did tell me that there were some packages (linux-headers, etc) that could be removed so I did:
                fintan2@fintanws2:~$ sudo apt-get autoremove
                Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
                Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut
                Status-Informationen einlesen... Fertig
                Die folgenden Pakete werden ENTFERNT:
                firefox-3.5 firefox-3.5-branding libcanberra0 libdbusmenu-qt0 libtdb1
                libvirtodbc0 linux-headers-2.6.32-11 linux-headers-2.6.32-11-generic
                linux-headers-2.6.32-12 linux-headers-2.6.32-12-generic
                virtuoso-opensource-6.0 virtuoso-opensource-6.0-common xulrunner-1.9.1
0 aktualisiert, 0 neu installiert, 13 zu entfernen und 0 nicht aktualisiert.
Nach dieser Operation werden 196MB Plattenplatz freigegeben.
                Möchten Sie fortfahren [J/n]?
but did not commit becuase it wanted to remove:

                virtuoso-opensource-6.0 virtuoso-opensource-6.0-common
                as well.

I guess it will be a saturday of playing around

Re: Todays upgrade breaking my system?

I just ran an upgrade and it would obviously break things if it went through:

                  Code:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
                   apport-kde apturl-kde gdebi-kde install-package jockey-kde kdebase-workspace kdebase-workspace-bin kdebase-workspace-data kpackagekit kubuntu-desktop

                   plasma-widget-googlecalendar printer-applet python-kde4 software-properties-kde system-config-printer-kde usb-creator-kde userconfig
The following packages will be upgraded:
                   python-qt4 python-qt4-dbus python-qt4-phonon
3 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 23 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/3,272kB of archives.
After this operation, 53.6MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
Of course I said N, but I learned from my last experience to never run a dist-upgrade forcing a "yes" as an answer to all questions

Yes there are broken packages > Bug #521729: Python-qt4 trying to remove...

From the Ubuntu side > Help - KDE uninstalled!!!

Even the PPA system has hickups:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdebase-workspace-dev: Depends: kdebase-workspace-bin (= 4:4.4.0-0ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed
                    E: Broken packages
                    apt-get failed.

Yes, I think this is totally acceptable in Lucid. I sat this one out, and now that the repos are in sync again upgraded both the python pages and KDE with no issues.

                      Cheers!

Today's update broke my system. After I login the splash screen comes up, the drive picture appears and then the second picture just starts to appear and I get kicked back to the login screen. Multiple attempts to login do the same thing. I get the same when I type sudo KDM from the recovery mode. Anyone have this problem?

I just upgraded Lucid to latest, no issues whatsoever. Actually, they uploaded some updates to libdrm and kernel and 3D performance is a little bit with the new open source drivers for ATI cards 8)

Re: Todays upgrade breaking my system?

I decided to take the Lucid Lynx plunge and replace my two karmic partitions with one Lucid partition. To do that I used the 2-17-10 Daily LiveCD of Kubuntu Lucid Lynx. The ISO and the CD both checked out fine. I went with option 2 off the LiveCD menu and after 30 seconds or so I had a black screen, which I let set for 15 minutes before I rebooted. The second time I took option 1 and brought up the KDE4.4 desktop. From there I clicked on the icon in the desktop panel which is labeled "Install Kubuntu". Going that route worked perfectly. About 20 minutes later I had a new Kubuntu 10.4 Beta KDE 4.4 desktop. While installing PostgreSQL 8.4 I noticed something called "Virtuoso" and looked it up on the Internet. Looks like Canonical is pushing another vendor product besides Yahoo's search engine. I removed all of virtuoso and set Google to the search.

I restored my old email addresses, my firefox links, my database info and the Qt applications I used to support.

Everything is working great except for two things: my KMixer no longer includes "source" dropdown combo boxes for setting input sources to mic, ccdrom or line. And, Stellarium doesn't show any stars.

Other than those things I'm a happy camper! 8)

I just downloaded the Feb 20 daily build. Booted into the live cd and a similar thing happened. I made it to the splash screen the hard drive appeared and, just as the wrench and screwdriver was appearing, the screen went black. I looked at the CD drive and it was still reading and about 20 seconds later my desktop showed up. I think I will sit on this for a while and not reinstall, as it seems like I may just get the same problem.
