A few things I noticed on Lucid

I know this is alpha 1 but just wondering if others are seeing the same things:

On my main desktop (see below) I can only boot though recovery mode and startx with resume normal login.

If I try booting in normal mode ym boot up stops at:
init: ureadahead-other main process (1128) terminated with staus 4
and just hangs there for ever. I have to reboot.

I cannot copy & paste anywhere.

I cannot add widgets (like lancelot) to the panel with right click panel->add widget or moving and dropping from tthe widgets panel (which I do like )

Has anyone else had one or more of these issues?

Other than that it feels snappy on my rig and kde4.4 is a big step forwards.

Cheers to all and a happy new year

Yeah, kinda like, the operation was a success, but...

On my main desktop (see below) I can only boot though recovery mode and startx with resume normal login.
Try this, from another thread -- worked here:
    Code:
    Here's the fix:

Edited my /etc/init/kdm.conf and remove, do not comment out, the following line:

    Code:
    and started hal
I cannot copy & paste anywhere.

I cannot add widgets (like lancelot) to the panel with right click panel->add widget or moving and dropping from tthe widgets panel (which I do like Wink )
These problems may both be related to the fact that if you upgrade kde-4.3 -> kde-4.4, it seems to want to install one or more new panels over the top of the old ones, making the whole thing non-functional. All you really have to do is right-click on the new panel and remove it. Fixed it here.

And the old problem associated with trying to start gdm over the top of kdm has also returned, but today's update seems to have cleared it.

      Thankx Doc.

I didn't see the extra panels, nice one.

      removing the line:
      and started hal
worked as well, it still stalls at with that message but continues after a while.

Loading todays updates mow and will see if that works later but am pretty sure it will work as the update seems io include a lot of kde-base related stuff.

      Now back to playing around

I guess I was a Bit quick with my bliss.

After updating I rebooted just to get a black screen. Booting in recovery gives me this:
Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
        at http://wiki.x.org
        for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

        ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
        I found this:
        http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=564256

        Which suggests this:
Moving config_init() after InitInput() in dix/main.c:main() should fix
        that.
can't find dix/main.c:main though. Never heard of it.

Maybe it is time to start a new thread ?

Buried somewhere in the source code for xorg-server. Might be a bear to recompile.

If you are using a proprietary video driver, it might be worth a shot reinstalling it. I've had to do that several times with lucid upgrades, for no apparent reason, but it has fixed several blank screens.

            Thank you doc,
I am using the default driver, so I guess I'll just have to wait.

Re: A few things I noticed on Lucid

              from the kubuntu-devel list today:

Currently mesa in Lucid is broken and so no packages that build-depend on it
can be built. As a result, Lucid is currently a mix of 4.3.85 (Beta 2) and
4.3.90 (RC 1) packages. Getting mesa fixed will not be just a matter of a few
              minutes (hopefully today).

My recommendation is don't update any Lucid systems now. It's unlikely we
will see 4.4 RC1 fully built until at least Sunday and possibly Monday even on
              the fast architectures.
