    Re: Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid

I noticed that the OP was posted on Nov 22nd at about 10AM.

My LiveCD copy of LL was in the evening of Nov 23rd. That version gave none of the problems the OP noticed. But, I had tried LiveCD's on days previous to the 23rd and each had loads of problems, including those that the OP mentioned.

The live version I downloaded first works and and when it installs it works but any updates or install of almost anything will break it. I then get the samething I get if I download a current version and install it. I think it is the NV driver that is the problem I don't know why I think that.

I would agree. My updates aren't breaking anything. Perhaps if you backed off to the nvidia-180 driver?

          Re: Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid

OK I reinstalled the pre Alpha live and then changed nothing except installed Synaptic and Firefox. I then put in the repository for the Nvidia 190 driver and rebooted. To my surprise it booted. I ran the driver app and install the Nvidia 195 driver and booted again and it worked. I ran all the updates. I got some errors so I tried again and it appeared to install everything so I rebooted again. This time it booted in and started KDE but the plasma-desktop crashed and I got a black screen with a mouse. I can press ALT F2 and run anything I know the name of. I tried to reinstall the plasma-desktop but that did nothing. I did ALT F2 and tried to run plasma-desktop but I just got a crash again. So I am almost working but I guess there is hope. The Nvidia 195 Driver appears to be working.

            Re: Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid

I noticed something strange on todays current/daily (12/25).
After burning a LiveCD and booting , if I try from the menu "try before installing.."
it takes a couple of minutes booting only to go to a blank screen. No key combination works.

After power cycle then from the first menu, I tried the "Install Kubuntu.."
It booted up completely to a desktop, without installing or executing ubiquity.
It was as though the "Try first" was reversed with "Install...".

One thing I have to say though , is once I click install from booted system , ubiquity worked perfectly. I used the manual method and each step worked without a hitch.

I got Lucid to install using the kdesudo ubiquity command line, but so far no luck with the wireless. I know, it's a basic system right now. Anyone notice the ghost running across the screen like the old television sets? I don't have Nvidea or anything special on my laptop. I do have the double-boot at login sometimes too. Oh well, it's a start in a new direction. I will keep up with the alphas and the betas.

If you're feeling brave you can always download the debs from here
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ install them using gdebi, and reboot...

thanks for the link... , i'm more likely to compile it my self , then to use the .deb for the kernel after all if i'm gonna go thru the trouble for a sensor, i might as well tweak it...

i dowloaded yesterday's build to install on my virtualbox, but it didn't show the desktop and the logo also was dimmed.

wonder if its the right stage to use it on vb?

                            Nope.

                            It's not even beta yet!

tried last week(think it was 1-6-10) with lucid in a virtualbox... the cd ran nicely but once i installed it to the virtual machine it would not boot.

Anyone else have a problem that plasma-desktop doesn't start on KDE RC 1 ? And it must be start manually or with system settings > advance > autostart script ? It will by nice if anyone who has that problem, confirm this bug on launchpad.net :P https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ce/+bug/506870 , or maybe just only me have that luck :|
