A problem with users avatars, profile pictures, and access to PMs has been reported. I am currently investigating and am hopeful I'll identify the cause and fix as quickly as possible. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.

I've confirmed that all the custom avatars and profile pictures are intact -- contained in the database. I am still working on identifying why they aren't visible within the forum.

SOLVED!
I came to the solution almost at the same the SteveRiley did, and I corrected the problem a few minutes ago. And because I'm not ashamed to admit to a mistake, the fault was mine, when a day or two ago I made a few permission changes to the Registered Users usergroup. One single option was set from Yes to No which caused the issues. I simply misunderstood the option I changed.
I am truly sorry for the inconvenience I caused everyone.
