Sorry to bump a somewhat old thread but I'm having issues with the sound on my Laptop. It's an HP Pavilion tx2510us.
I hope you'll forgive me, as I'm still new to Linux. I've dabbled with Ubuntu and Kubuntu off and on... but never ever used either as a main OS before. I used to be a pretty avid gamer, so I just stuck to Windows. Since I do not plan to do any gaming on my Laptop- I just threw Kubuntu on it (tried Ubuntu 9.04- but liked Kubuntu more

).
Anyhow... I tried the suggestion about the volume- everything is maxed yet I get no sound from my laptops' integrated speakers. From my limited knowledge- it does appear as if multiple audio devices are listed... the main one seems to simply be listed as "ATI SB HDA". I don't know how to get any sound playback, and would hate to have to purchase external speakers when my laptop has decent integrated speakers.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! I'm pretty new to the command prompt (you'll have to forgive my terminology- I'm far more familiar with MS-DOS than I am the Linux terminal *blushes*) in Linux, so if I have to do anything within it then I'll need very precise and explicit directions.
Thanks again!
