Hi everyone,
After much trail&error I've managed to successfully install KDE4 and the latest beta-driver for Linux Grin

However,I have a problem. When I'm in the KDE4 desktop environment(I'm writing this post inside it now),I selected something that requires root privileges. But when I type in my password I use in my KDE3 environment,it tells me that my password is incorrect!!(even though I use it to log-in and use sudo etc)I have typed it in carefully several times just in case I mis-typed it,but the prompt just kept telling me it was incorrect.

I hope somebody can help me with this one.

regards,

just an update here.  i solved this problem by "resetting" the root/su password.  i did it from command line like this:
sudo passwd
then it asks you for a new password and voila!  it works as expected.
its as if kde4 "forgets" the password so you have to set the root/su password over again.

Hi Echoes~,
Thank you very much for the advice. However, since I have installed the latest Hardy Heron Alpha2,I haven't been trying out KDE4,because I have been waiting for the official release(which is due out on Friday).I'm also waiting eagerly for the Hardy Heron Alpha3 to hit the servers tonight Grin.

I would like to thank you again for coming up with the solution, and I will try it out if the same problem rears it's ugly head in the stable release.

Regards,

you must have a major problem if there is a just a "white screen/wallpaper".  kde4 ships with a default one...
and did you try my suggestion?

I now have it saving my root password okay but if I turn the computer off and then back on it 'forgets'  the wallpaper that I have set so have to right click and set it back. No big problem but I do need to report this and other stuff to the KDE guys but how? Where is the best place to report bugs etc. For example tried out Konq and as usual kept crashing on some of my websites (flash prob I think) but when I tried to save the backtrace it wouldn't let me.

So where do I go to send probs?

Report bugs, as always, on Launchpad
